Martha Carter Haynes

The mastermind behind many of the soul food dishes served at Martha’s Bistro was Martha Carter Haynes. Martha was a master chef, known worldwide for her preparation of dishes such as fried green tomatoes, liver and onions, whole fried catfish, chitterlings, onion rings, cornbread and greens. Martha Carter Haynes was one of eight sisters. She spent her childhood in St. Francisville, Louisiana. She graduated from Northwestern High School in Zachary, Louisiana and Southern University - Baton Rouge with a major in Sociology. Martha was a Master Sergeant at Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola when she passed away in 2009 as a result of breast cancer. The three stars in the Martha’s Bistro logo symbolize Martha and her two deceased sisters: Julia Ernest (The Blueberry Delight Queen) and Geraldine Mitchell (The Bread Pudding Queen). The stars are our tribute to them for their contributions to this venture.
